April 2002

The start of my third month was a bit difficult, Sunday my husband reminds me to call our neighbour to get her to babysit on Tuesday for my weigh in.  I get in touch with her around 6pm on the Sunday and everything is set.  Monday he informs me he is on a course, and will be off at 3pm, so I don't need the sitter, so I call and cancel her.

At noon on Tuesday, he calls me and says he has to work late because of a snow storm.  Now I have to try and see if my sitter can come.  I left a message and have to play it by ear and see if she can come.  I'm so upset with my husband.  He knows how important this is to me and how I need my meetings, yet he can't say "no" to his boss.

Luckily I was able to get my sitter to come, and it was so thankful she could come on such short notice.  She felt so bad for the last time when she messed up, she had written down the wrong date on her calendar and was out that night, I tried to pay her a bit extra that night for the short notice, but she wouldn't accept.

So my first weigh in of April was a post-Easter weigh in and I lost 3 pounds!!  I was thrilled, I was 2 pounds away from both my 10% and my 25 pound magnet!!

I picked myself up some jeans on sale for $9.99 in a size that fit me, and one size smaller.  I was so glad to get some pants that fit, AND they were jeans with a regular waist band, no elastic!

My April 9th weigh in was a maintain.  And I knew exactly what happened.  I didn't eat enough food, I banked too many points (again).  I need to eat closer to the max of my point range.  I drank too much diet pop and not enough water.  I left the meeting determined to make my 10%/25 lb. mark for my next meeting.  This would be a big challenge as I started antibiotics on the 9th for a sinus infection.

At the April 9th meeting my cousin and a friend from work joined the class I attend.  It was great to have company!  And since my cousin was living with us, it would be great for keeping motivated at home.

April 16th, I went off to my weigh in and I was fully expecting a gain because of the antibiotics I'd been on all week.  I was good on program, good with my water and everything.  It paid off!!  I lost 2.2 pounds and got my 10% keychain AND my 25 pound magnet!

For my April 23rd weigh in I decided to wear my jeans ... to heck with how it affects the scales!  Onto the scale and it showed a 1 pound loss!!!  WOW!!  The staff member at the scale said that I actually lost three because jeans weigh 2 pounds!

During the meeting when I did my "brag" I told everyone how I had biked to the park with the kids AND that I went on the slide and swings with them.  That is something I have never done with my children.  What fun!

After the meeting my leader said to me quite casually "I want you up here" ... I think she means for me to be a future leader.  Wow what a night!  As I thought more about what she said to me the more I think I'd like to do it.  As I thought about it I came up with a few reasons why I'd like to do it.

    1.    Great to motivate others to be successful in their loss

    2.    Time out for ME!

    3.    Helps to keep ME motivated

    4.    Fun!

    5.    New and exhilarating part of my life!

As I prepare this web page, I looked for some "before" pictures, but since I was an avid camera avoider, there aren't many.  I hope to get some when my mother comes down on May 19th for my birthday.  She has some pictures still in her camera from Christopher's birthday which was the week before I started on program.  Hopefully there's a good "embarrassing" shot.

My April 30th weigh in went great, I lost 2.6 pounds, for a total of 28.8 pounds!!  (sounds like a modem, ha ha!).

Our leader was talking tonight about a Women's triathlon that WW is a sponsor of.  She told us how they had three women telling their stories about doing it.  One woman was older, one was a plus size like many of us current WW members, and the third had enough stress in her life to make everyone appreciate how good they had it!  After listening to my leader relay these women's stories, I thought ... hmmm, why not me?  They have a mini triathlon that consists of a 300m swim, 11km bike and 2.5 km run (or walk).

May 2002

My first weigh in for May was the 7th, and as I approached this meeting I knew I had 1.2 pounds to go to reach 30 pounds.  As I got on the scale it bounced between a 0.6 loss and a 0.8 loss, so the staff member at the scale said she'd go with the 0.8 loss.  So now I have 0.4 pounds to go to reach my 30 pounds, and get my third 10 pound ribbon.

At this meeting we had a guest speaker, a woman who has completed the Weight Watchers Ontario Women's Triathlon.  She was such an inspiration.  Being a plus size athlete she put a new spin on this.  The motivation she provided was incredible, and it made me more determined to do this triathlon on September 1st.

Today I had an interesting e-mail from my Mum.  I hadn't told her I was doing WW and she sent me a message today saying she thought I had done a diet plan and had lost a lot of weight!  WOW!!  Talk about Mother's Intuition!

My second weigh in for May was May 14th and I was pretty sure I'd be able to meet my 30 pound goal before my birthday.  I got on the scale and lost a total of 1.2 pounds!!    I'm now at a total of 30.8 pounds gone and feel great!!  Another milestone hit for a non-scale success was being able to fit in my next size down jeans, now I'll have to find a new next size down pair!

Tomorrow my parents arrive on the train to stay for a week, and they haven't seen me since I started my journey.  I'm anxious for their comments!  But on the bad side of comments, when we visited my in-laws on Mother's Day, she didn't even comment on my loss.  I hope she just didn't want to say anything but did notice.

My post-birthday (May 21st) loss was 2.2 pounds ... but we did go to a really on-program restaurant for my birthday dinner, it really helped!!  Mum was thrilled with my new look ... and now it's time for her to learn to be on program properly, she wasn't calculating her points right, she said to me "I don't eat fibre so I don't count it" ... so she was calculating way too many points for things that were much lower, thus not eating enough food so her body thought I'm starving, no losing weight!  She had  a bit of a loss when she weighed in Friday here in Brampton, but our scales go by 0.2 pounds, and hers goes by 1/2 pounds, so ours showed a 0.8 loss ... I'm anxious to see how she does on Friday when she goes to weigh in.  She's lost 31 pounds total since 1999 ... hopefully she'll start to drop those pounds like crazy now that she's calculating properly.

Mum brought some good embarrassing "before" shots for me ... check out my picture page for the newest additions.  I'll get a during photo up soon, I had a good one on the roll, but my son opened the camera and ruined the whole roll!

My last weigh in for May on the 28th was a 3.6 pound loss, so great, so motivating!!  The Chairman of the company I worked for congratulated me on the loss on Monday ... he said "What's up with you" and looked me up and down and I told him 33 pounds gone ... he said keep on going!
